Common Questions
When do dahlia tubers go on sale?
Our shop opens once a year in December. We sell out fast and some varieties within hours. Join our waitlist at the link above for early access before we announce it anywhere else.
When do tubers ship?
Tubers ship end of March, weather permitting, timed perfectly for spring planting in most US growing zones. You'll receive an email with your tracking information as soon as your order ships. Tubers are checked multiple times for health and intact eyes prior to shipping. Most tubers will ship in a dormant phase, but will begin awakening and sprouting from their eyes shortly after arrival.
Where is Rooted Dahlias located?
We're a family farm rooted in Minnesota. We grow every tuber ourselves; nothing is sourced or resold. What you plant came directly from our field.
How many varieties do you offer?
We grow hundreds of varieties each season. Everything from soft blush and peachy corals to deep magenta and rich burgundy. Our full lineup is revealed each December when the shop opens. Follow us on Instagram for variety previews all season long.
How do I plant dahlia tubers?
Plant tubers in spring after your last frost date, about 4–6 inches deep with the eye facing up, in a sunny spot with well-draining soil. Space them 12-18 inches apart. Don't water heavily until you see sprouts as dahlia tubers can rot in cold, wet soil. Visit our growing guide for the full step-by-step. We recommend staking tall or large blooming dahlia's, especially if you live in a windy climate.
What if my tuber doesn't sprout?
Healthy tubers from Rooted Dahlias are hand-selected and inspected before shipping. If you have any concerns about your order, reach out to us directly at hello@rooteddahlias.com. We stand behind every tuber we ship.
Do you accept returns?
Due to the perishable and seasonal nature of dahlia tubers, we are unable to accept returns. Every tuber is hand-selected and inspected by our family before it leaves the farm. If you have any concerns about the condition of your order upon arrival, please reach out to us at hello@rooteddahlias.com and we'll do our best to make it right.
Do you ship everywhere in the US?
Yes! We ship dahlia tubers across the continental United States. Shipping to Alaska and Hawaii is not currently available.
Can I order fresh cut dahlias?
Yes! We offer fresh cut dahlias locally during bloom season. Visit our shop for availability or follow us on Instagram for updates on what's blooming.
